Color: a vital element of branding.

Color can contribute to successful branding imparts powerful emotional affects. This is absolutely true with brands.

And in the world of , you’ll probably be dealing with combinations of . So determining the “meanings” of colors is vital. You want to “mix and match” without giving contradictory messages, but you may also want the tension that mixing can provide.

There’s a graphic design and web design firm out of Australia that has helped educate me about colors, both individually and in combination. They go by the moniker, Sibagraphics. Their tools, all free to use, include:

Information about some fourteen colors, including their meanings in various cultures, their symbolic significance and their common associations can be found at The Meaning of Colors.

They also have a page on which you can specify several colors from a wheel and instantly see them side-by-side. These are colors from the “web-safe” palette. Find the wheel at Colour Wheel.

Finally, you can create web, logo and business identity schemes with -Wheel-Pro. This software product will allow you to experiment, compare and chose combinations with ease.
